The chemical peels we offer are considered superficial, meaning they do not penetrate beyond the epidermis. They are not to be confused with medical or physician-strength peels that affect the living tissue of the dermis. Even though some of the peels  offered are described as "deep", know that we are still referring to a  superficial chemical peel.

  • ProgressiveA progressive peel does not usually cause immediate exfoliation and only removes the top most layer of the epidermis. As treatments are repeated, your skin will experience a mild sloughing. For best results  a series of three to six treatments should be performed one to two weeks apart. They are often used to help clients become comfortable with chemical peels so they can experience even greater results with more active peels.
  • Mid-Depth: These peels affect deeper into the epidermis with exfoliation occurring within two to three days after application. The skin goes through very little down time. Peeling consists of light flaking similar to a sunburn peel. Mid-depth chemical peels can usually be done monthly for as long as needed.
  • Deep: These chemical peels affect the deepest layers of the epidermis. Your skin will undergo considerable peeling, which occurs three to four days after application. The entire process takes about 7-10 days. There is some down time, because on days 3-4, your skin will become brown and crusty and somewhat unsightly. Your skin will peel in large segments as opposed to flaking. These peels can be done six weeks apart, and never more than 3 or 4 per year. Deep chemical peels are often used as a prep for medical peels by physicians.

Prior to any decision about receiving a chemical peel, your skin will be meticulously examined to determine result outcome and assess the condition of your skin. Taken into consideration will be the type of skin you have, where or not you have had previous peels, what home care products (Retinol, Retin-A) you have used, what medications you have been taking and if you have plans for near future sun activities.
